I had to buy this book for an MBA class. It was a very frustrating read. There were NUMEROUS grammatical errors - some of them were even comical (ex. using the word "entree" instead of "entry" twice on page 127)!

The writing style, sentence structure, and grammar were so bad that I had a hard time focusing on the content. I would be embarrassed if I were the publisher - John Wiley & Sons.

I would strongly not recommend this book.

The writing in this book is awful for a textbook. The book is also full of more opinions rather than fact and research. I agree with the previous post, the grammar is atrocious and it was hard to concentrate on the content that was there to find.

this book is good (original...not)

ok i basically just want to ask if anyone knows where I can get a copy of the film that was on TV based on this book over Christmas a few years back. I remember really enjoying it as a kid and I've read the book, (which by the way is v. good and so not just for 8 year olds!!)If anyone could help that would be great.

But I spose I better write about the book which is set in a huge department store and follows the lives of Livvy, Angeline and their Mum, as they take part in an adventure, centered around the department store where they are living ileagally. They find themselves at the centre of a burgulary, struggling with the decision to call the police and hand themselves and the robbers in or see if they can fight them off on their own.

This is a bit slow moving in parts but I loved the idea of living in a department store like Harrods. It also touches on certain issues like homelessness and is an all round good read. My favourite characters are Mr Whiskers and Angeline, who bring some light comody to what is a really good fun and light herated book.

A Shopping Trip to Remember

As a child, I longed to linger in department stores beyond closing hours: I always wondered what it would be like to explore when no one was around!
Now, Alex Shearer has provided me with my childhood fantasy. The Williams family not only gets to explore "the greatest store in the world," they get to live there, as well.
Shearer provides the reader with an entertaining and fast paced look at what really is a serious issue: homelessness. Olivia, Angeline, and their mom literally have nowhere to live when they take up residence at Scottley's Department Store. Shearer manages to infuse the situation with warmth, honesty, and compassion as the girls and their mother struggle to stay hidden, eat well, and maintain a standard of living. Their adventures are permeated with a sense of humor, realism, and fantasy, all at the same time. When their adventure begins to sour, the reader knows somehow, someway, there will be a happy ending.
This book is a real find for those of us who envision large stores as playgrounds after hours!

A treasure hunt, and a treasure

I had heard a song on the radio a year ago at Christmastime that was done by The Carpenters. I am a church soloist, and I wanted to sing this song this Christmas. After much searching and researching, I found the name of the song, then the name of the album, then I turned to Amazon.com, and found the song book for the album. Now I will be singing the beautiful lullaby "Christ is Born" this Christmas season. This song book is a treasure of Christmas standards, as well as a few Carpenters' originals, such as "Merry Christmas, Darling". I will be using this songbook every Christmas!

Sheet music version of the Christmas album of the same name (which you can and should download, as well).

This is the sheet music version of the music collection called The Carpenters Christmas Portrait. I recommend you download the album and listen carefully to the beautiful arrangements Richard Carpenter put on that album and the velvety alto voice of Karen Carpenter. This will help you understand what you should try to achieve when playing these pieces. Obviously, the simplified arrangements here will not sound like a professionally produced album, but you can get in the spirit of the thing better if you have the right sound in your ears. And if you are a more advanced musician, you can build your own arrangement using those recordings and this sheet music as your launching pad.

There was a time when recording artists did seasonal albums because they sell each and every year. I am glad this music is still around for us to enjoy because I miss Karen's voice so much. She was a more sophisticated singer than people appreciate. And I admire Richard's skill as a pianist and arranger very very much. He is a lot better than he often gets credit for. Very fine stuff.

Everything You've Hoped For!

I was very skeptical about buying this songbook. My fear was that it would simply be repackaged sheet music arrangements of the songs on one of my favorite Christmas albums. But I was completely overjoyed when I opened the book and found actual piano transcriptions of Richard Carpenter's incredible arrangements. And it's all there, from the amazing opening medley to the final, haunting "Silent Night". If you love to sit at the piano and play Christmas songs, this is the songbook you've been dreaming about.

This excellent volume written by two snowboarding professionals is expertly explained, lavishly illustrated, and extremely well presented. Each author gives a succinct insight into the sport at the start... This book details everything from basic riding to flat tricks to straight jump to half pipe to rails/boxes. It includes a glossary, further information (FIS rules and general courtesies for half-pipe and space for executing tricks) equipment, parks around the world, and helpful websites. The tricks for this volume are photographed at numerous venues, giving further evidence to the global nature of snowboarding its universal appeal. Alexander Rottmann was a member of the German and Austrian national snowboarding teams and of Germany's 2002 and 2006 Olympic teams.

Nici Pederzolli is a snowboarding champion who has placed in many world-class competitions, including the 1998 Nagano and 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics.
