About the Author
Richard Schabacker achieved his financial fame in the 1920s and 1930s. First as Financial Editor of Forbes and later as Editor of The Annalist, a weekend section of the New York Times. During this time he also authored three books. To many in the markets, who know of him, he is known as "the father of technical analysis".

Origins of Technical Analysis

This is a fundemental reference for Technical Analysts. My interest is clarity and by periodic and frequent review of theory origins, perceiving market behaviour is better refined.

Great book

Although this book includes "technical analysis" in the title, thankfully it doesn't cover it at all. This book focuses solely on the art of charting. I've read many books on the markets and charting (haven't read Edwards and Magee yet) and this Schabacker gem is the most articulate that I've read. I've been a full-time professional reader for almost 5 years and I'd recommend this book to any aspiring or already full-time trader. If you call yourself a chartist, I don't see how you do not own this book. Thanks.

Great Book, poor edition.

This book is a classic that launched Technical Analysis. The book discusses the basics: trend lines, support resistance, flags etc. A solid work.
However what I found annoying about this edition is that the closing price on these charts have been omitted by the editors of this work. The editor Donald Mack when recreating charts from the original course by Richard Schabacker took out the closing price when he edited the work. Donald mentions this omission and explains that it is due to how hard the original charts were to read from the surviving course. He made this decision despite of Richard Schabacker mentioning in the course of how important closing prices were. I have been reading price action for years now, I know how right Schabacker was, closing price are extremely important. This decision by the editor is highly annoying and smacks of laziness, how hard could it have been to simply look up the charts from a different source and import that information to a new edition? I would rate this edition much lower, however the content by Schabacker is so good I can't in due conscious do that.
If anyone else knows of an edition that includes the missing closing prices please leave a comment and let me know, I will gladly re-purchase the book just for the missing information.
