About the Author
Rick H. has been freed from alcohol addiction for over 22 years. He is an active member of the 12 step community, sponsoring and mentoring many in recovery. Since 2001, he has organized and co-facilitated spiritual retreats for individuals in recovery and others seeking spiritual growth. He has had over 20 articles on recovery published in recovery periodicals. Rick and his wife, Susan, live in the Chicagoland area and recently celebrated 25 years of marriage. They have two grown children, Stephanie and Scott.

A Universal Tool Box for Life's Challenges

Whether it be for addiction or life's problems that take hold and control us, Under Construction:25 Life-Building Tools for Addicts in Recovery is a universal tool for the path to a healthy lifestyle. It's more than just a tool box full of ways to gain control of one's thoughts and life's challenges. It's a step by step, how-to book with personal insights as well as exercises that strengthen one's resolve and prepare one for a life of self control rather than control from outside sources. I would recommend it for anyone who is looking for a better understanding of one's self as well as specfic ways and exercises to accomplish that goal.

What an absolutely wonderful book for those in recovery!! I bought the book this past Saturday and had read it by Monday! I could not put it down!
Rick did such a great job explaining many of the terms and ways to work through each step! I especially enjoyed the quotes used before each chapter! Also the questions that he asked at the end of each chapter!!
Great job Rick! I am sure many of us will be able to relate to this wonderful, down to the basics book, to help us live one day a time!! I highly recommend it to all willing to work the program! Thank-you Rick for sharing your thoughts with us!!

useful and relevant

I'm an addictions counselor and bought this book to use in group therapy. It works very well in that setting. It is well organized and quite straight forward. Each of the "tools" discuss the problem, suggested insights and solutions, a personal story to illustrate the point, and ending with several questions so that the reader can consider his/her own situation. I'm sure that the tools would equally well in a self help setting if the reader is ready and willing to do the work.
