Salim Lamrani teaches at the University of Paris- Sorbonne Paris IV and the University of la R�union. He is also a journalist and commentator who specializes in Cuban-American relations.

A very important book.

This book is infuriating. I mean that in a good way. It should make you angry. The book is a very short read and filled with incredibly detailed information. It clearly illustrates what most of the world (and the majority of Americans) already know, that the irrational and destructive nature of the US's blockade against Cuba is criminal and absurdly irrational. Lamrani does a great service by providing information that illustrates the truly insidiousness of the US policy toward Cuba. The details are inconceivable and infuriating. The greatest victim here, of course, is the Cuban people. Though the blockade is absurd and the "justification" for it changes each decade, depending on what the current fear catch-phrase is popular in the US media, the blockade is a horrible farce that is really an old outdated ideological grudge from one of the world's most powerful countries that is still sore about being sent home with its tail between its legs during the Bay of Pigs. Despite all these hardships, Cuba somehow has been able to maintain its universal health care and education system, despite the US's illegal attempt to destroy it. It is amazing. As an American, it is embarrassing and shameful. Read this book.
